Charnwood's new Skye wood burning and multi fuel stove is an outstanding stove in every way, but then you'd expect nothing less from Britain's top stove maker. We believe that it is also probably the first British-made stove which has been truly designed to, not just meet the tough new 2022 Ecodesign emissions limits, but to excel at keeping its emissions as low as possible whilst, importantly, maintaining the highest fuel efficiencies – a superb 86% for wood with a whopping 82% for smokeless coal. The Ecodesign Ready benchmark has certainly been set extremely high by Charnwood with this wonderfully proportioned and well-built contemporary styled 5kW stove.
The Skye's clean burning credentials are endorsed by both Defra Exempt and SIA Ecodesign Ready status and this clean combustion is carefully managed through Charnwood's innovative Quattroflow technology along with the single discreet user-friendly control which precisely adjusts the 2kW to 7kW heat output range for maximum fuel economy and comfort. The heavy duty converting fire grate allows you to easily switch between wood and smokeless coal and also doubles up as an externally riddled grate. Direct External Air Supply (DEAS) capability makes the Skye a great choice for low energy houses as well as for minimising cold draughts.
The Skye's robust unfussy looks belie Charnwood's attention to detail so that there is nothing jarring about this stove's modern appearance, from its subtle curves to the smooth operation of the large concealed cool to touch door handle. Choose either the Skye Low (height 623mm), or for a bigger presence, the Skye Stove Store model with its integral log stand which increases the overall height of the stove by a further 185mm to 808mm. The Skye is slightly wider than a lot of 5kW stoves which simply adds to its pleasing proportions. As a testament to the quality of the materials Charnwood have used on the Skye Low it weighs in at a mere 135kg (add a further 20kg for the Store Stand model) which possibly makes the Skye one of the heaviest 5kW stoves on the market. All this weight makes a very practical heat sink for longer lasting slow release heat overnight.
Options include a heat shield, and along with an insulated chimney, this can significantly reduce the safe distances to combustible materials – not that they were too bad to begin with and a space-saving rear vertical flue adaptor which provides a significant reduction in space at the rear over using a traditional T-piece or swept bend and this along with being able to easily sweep through the stove also makes the Skye a practical choice for rear-flued installations. Finally, there's a big airwashed window with a great view of the flames to add to the pleasure of owning this state-of-the art Charnwood stove. So as you can probably tell that we really like the Skye. And whats not to like? The Skye is striking to look at, highly efficient, extremely well made and very British.
