In our view the compact Charnwood Cranmore 3 is one of very best looking small wood burning stoves that you can buy. It’s also incredibly efficient and its Quattroflow Air Management System, with its single push-pull control, makes it very easy to use. But really the Cranmore 3 is all about its big window, surely one of the largest glass areas on any small stove. The virtually full width and full height, fine cast iron door with its simple, narrow window frame means that you’ll get a great view of the whole of the fire chamber and the wonderful flame patterns that this stove produces. Pre-heated tertiary air ensures that even when turned down the Cranmore 3 will produce mesmerising flames and at the same time maintain the exceptional cleaner burning that has earned it Defra exemption and the highest Level 5 rating in the independently verified ClearSkies stove emissions and efficiency scheme. Its A+ rated efficiency of 86% is also very hard to beat.
The Cranmore 3’s unique blend of clean contemporary lines, with just a hint of traditional stove styling in the elegant legs, ensure that this is a stove that will look equally good in any fireplace or interior setting. It has a nominal 3.7kW output and tested heat range of around 1.5kW to 5.0kW (depending on fuel load and heat setting) which also make it an excellent choice for small living spaces or even off grid installations such as yurts, cabins or shepherd huts. For these type of timber constructions Charnwood have produced an optional metal heat shielding Stove Pod to minimise the safe distances to combustible materials that are normally required for the Cranmore 3. For post 2008 low energy homes, instead of creating a dedicated air vent to comply with Building Regulations you can take advantage of the Cranmore 3’s direct external air supply capability with Charnwood’s optional external air supply kit.
The Cranmore 3 is designed and built in Britain using top quality materials and components with Charnwood’s singular attention to detail in evidence throughout the stove. Take the Cranmore 3’s sliding ash pan for example – we know of no other stove which makes ash removal so easy. When it comes to chimney sweeping the Cranmore 3 has a simple drop down baffle so that it can be safely swept through the stove. For rear flue installations you’ll only need an additional 124mm (approx 5”) to a non-combustible fireplace wall when Charnwood’s compact rear flue adaptor is specified. The Cranmore 3 is also suitable for installation on a 12mm hearth (subject to Building regulations). A handy optional top cooking plate will help you to make the most of your stove’s ‘free’ heat. This will prove especially versatile for off-gridders or indeed anyone who fancies the convenience of some low and slow cooked casseroles or soups or simply to keep pre-cooked dishes warm and ready to eat – mince pies for example. The Cranmore 3 is based on Charnwood’s best selling contemporary styled Aire 3 which has a store stand option and could also be worthwhile checking out.
All Charnwood stoves carry a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty when purchased through The Stove Yard, their authorised dealer.
