The Dovre 250 multi fuel stove is a traditionally styled stove from Dovre, the Belgian stove makers who have been manufacturing all-cast iron stoves for well over 80 years. The Dovre 250 has been one of their most popular stoves for over a decade and has recently been re-tested to comply with the tough new 2022 Ecodesign emissions standards which will no doubt ensure that it will remain a perennial best-seller for at least another ten years.
The strength and longevity, and in particular the unique way that cast iron radiates heat long after the fire has gone out has made it the tried and tested construction method for stoves for centuries. These days however, high quality precision-moulded all-cast iron Ecodesign stoves are expensive to produce which makes the Dovre 250 a real rarity. Not only is the door cast iron like most stoves, but unusually the bodywork, legs and lid, as well as the fire chamber innards, are all made from premium quality cast iron and have been cast by Dovre in their own foundry to guarantee a stove of exceptional build quality and performance. This can be clearly seen in the strong sculptural moulding around the gently arched full-width window and the fine detailing in the lattice work design in the side panel castings.
The Dovre 250 multi fuel stove weighs in at approximately 79kg, much more than your average 5kW stove, and all of that cast iron will make a wonderful heat sink to carry on exuding warmth and extend the heating period. It has an A+ rated efficiency of up to 81.7% when burning wood and has a tested heat output range between 2kW and 7kW, depending on the fuel load, which will allow you to fully utilise it throughout most of the year. For example you will be able to lightly fuel it to take the chill off late spring or early autumn evenings or fully load it for freezing cold days in the depths of the worst winter.
Since the Dovre 250 is a true multi fuel stove, with an externally riddled grate and ash pan as well as separate primary and secondary air controls for wood or smokeless mineral fuel, it will also give you flexible fuel choice – great if you want to slumber burn with smokeless coal. There's an optional Defra smoke exempt kit, which when fitted will allow you to legally burn wood in a Smoke Control Area (most UK urban areas). The Dovre 250 is finished in traditional matt black paint or in optional glossy Ivory White enamel and comes with a five-year manufacturer's warranty. To sum up, this Belgian-made classic is not only a practical and efficient clean burning 5kW stove, but it will also make the perfect choice for most typical sized living spaces and especially those with wider fireplace openings where its fine side castings can be seen to best effect.
