A wonderful compact wood burner with the benefit of a host of practical and realistically priced options – a must for off-gridders 

We were knocked out when we first laid eyes on this stunning contemporary modular stove concept and couldn't wait to get our hands on them. Now that we have, they're even better than we first thought. The Apple Core, as the name suggests, is at the centre of the range. This is the basic Ecodesign and Defra Approved compact 4.0kW multi fuel stove to which you can add a pedestal base / store stand or top oven, warming plate and side shelves – or the whole lot, to make a wonderfully good looking, practical heating and cooking solution. 

Combined with a heat output starting at a lowly 1.0kW and very low minimum distances to combustible materials, this not only make the Apple stove a must for smaller fireplaces and living spaces but also canal boats, workshops, shepherds huts, yurts and glamping pods. The Apple's narrow 100mm (4") diameter top or rear flue outlet will also help with maintaining a good, safe updraught in these single-story type installations where standard 125mm and 150mm diameter flues can prove problematic, often requiring costly and impractical flue heights to operate safely. There's also an optional direct external air supply kit available which eliminates the need to feed the stove from the air in a small well-insulated space.

The attention to detail on the Apple's all-cast iron construction, as well as on the many optional extras, is exceptional. Nothing about the Apple Core is ill considered. With a top end efficiency of 82.0% and being both Defra Smoke Exempt and SIA Ecodesign Ready, its environmental and clean burning credentials are also exceptional. Controlling the fire couldn't be easier as there's just one simple user-friendly slider control which manages the combination of primary, secondary and tertiary combustion air. The Apple Pie can be installed on a non-combustible 12mm thick decorative hearth (subject to current building regulations).

You can customise your Apple Core bodywork from a choice of 10 designer colours, including Almond and Metallic Grey, or choose to keep the standard black bodywork and simply opt for a contrasting door colour. For an added bit of industrial chic you can even choose to have your cast iron door(s) supplied burnished. As standard the Apple Core comes with a choice of interchangeable steel or wooden gripped handles and a reversible cast iron pizza / griddle shelf which can be used to sear a stake or heat a hot snack once you have a bed of glowing embers. Everything about the Apple Core is built to last and for lasting peace-of-mind it comes with Ekol's Ten Year Warranty (subject to terms and conditions).
